SAINT JOHN – Turns out Sebastien Auger made some history with
his marvelous 2-0 win in Val-d’Or last Friday. From the QMJHL website’s Interesting Numbers weekly post:
On January 31 in Val-d’Or, Auger made history by making 53 saves in a 2-0 shutout win over the Foreurs, marking the most saves ever made by a QMJHL goalie in a shutout. The previous benchmark was 51 and that was held by two goalies including most recently Benjamin McMullin of the Quebec Remparts back in 2002-03. Auger will also be eyeing his 51st win of his QMJHL career which would make him the winningest goalie in Sea Dogs history, surpassing Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault (50).
What a goaltender. The 53 shots and saves in that game
were both a career high for the Sea Dogs goaltender.
Last night Auger was, to nobody’s surprise, named Saint
John’s player of the month for January.
