The Sea Dogs made a minor move before
today’s QMJHL trade deadline, acquiring defenseman Gabriel Bettez from the
Baie-Comeau Drakkar. According to multiple media outlets, the deal will see
Saint John send a 10th-round pick in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft to
the Drakkar.
Bettez, 18, has played in 12 QMJHL games
with the Drakkar this season, registering one assist.
A seventh-round pick of the Drakkar in
the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft, the 6’3”, 210 lbs d-man is in his first QMJHL
campaign. He has spent the past two seasons with the Trois-Rivieres Estacades
of the Quebec midget AAA ranks.
Mikael Lalancette of TVA Sports suggests
the move is to help fill the whole left in Saint John’s lineup from Bailey
Webster’s injury.
