BUFFALO, NY – Luke Green was selected 79th
overall by the Winnipeg Jets at the NHL Draft on Saturday.
The Sea Dogs defenseman was selected in
the ballpark where he was expected to be picked. For example,
HockeyProspect.com had him going 77th overall while International
Scouting Services had him at No. 88.
Green, selected first overall in the
2014 QMJHL Entry Draft, had 10 goals and 35 points in 61 games this past
season. He added three points in 13 playoff matches.
The 18-year-old is the first Sea Dog to
be taken by the Jets/Thrashers organization.
Green wasn’t the only Sea Dog selected as forward Nathan Noel was taken 113th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks..@GreenLuke55 on why going to a Canadian team makes today even more special.— Winnipeg Jets (@NHLJets) June 25, 2016

The St. John’s native, who was passed
over in last year’s draft, had 21 goals and 57 points in 61 games with Saint
John this past season. He added another three goals and 13 points in 16 playoff
matches. There was some confusion over where Noel is from.

The 19-year-old was eligible for last year’s draft, projected to be a late pick. He was ranked 171st amongst North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting for this year’s draft.#Blackhawks take Nathan Noel from St. John's.— Tracey Myers (@TramyersCSN) June 25, 2016
Noel is the first Sea Dogs player to be taken by the 'Hawks.
Only 14 players from the QMJHL were taken at this year's NHL Draft, one of the fewest totals ever.
