Game Day 2: vs Islanders

SAINT JOHN - After a rough season opening loss, the Saint John Sea Dogs return home looking to earn their first win of the regular season.

The Sea Dogs host the Charlottetown Islanders this evening. The Isles are expected to be one of the top teams in the Maritimes Division this season and are coming off a 4-2 victory in Moncton last night.

The Sea Dogs blew a 3-0 lead last night. The Islanders overcame a 2-0 deficit. We'll see what happens tonight.

Game time at TD Station is 7 p.m.

2020-21 records: The Sea Dogs are 0-0-1-0 for one point (fourth Maritimes, 10th QMJHL) while the Islanders are 1-0-0-0 for two points (second Maritimes, sixth QMJHL).

2019-20 records: The Sea Dogs finished the shortened season with a 30-33-1-0 record for 61 points (fourth Maritimes, sixth Eastern, 11th QMJHL) while the Islanders were 33-26-5-0 for 71 points (third Maritimes, fifth Eastern, seventh QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Bathurst last night. Joshua Roy, Kale McCallum and Alex Drover scored for Saint John. Noah Patenaude made 42 saves in the loss. The Islanders are coming off a 4-2 win in Moncton last night. Thomas Casey scored a pair for Charlottetown while singles came from Keiran Gilbert and Lukas Cormier. Colten Ellis made 20 saves in the win.

2020-21 head-to-head: This is the first meeting of the season between the two.

2019-20 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs were 1-7-1-0 against the Islanders last season while Charlottetown went 8-1-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: March 6 at Eastlink Centre where the Islanders defeated the Sea Dogs 6-2. Cédric Desruisseaux and Cole Edwards each scored a pair for Charlottetown while singles came from Zachary Beauregard and Drew Johnston. Joshua Roy and Jeffrey Durocher scored for Saint John. Jacob Goobie made 38 stops in the win. Zachary Bouthillier made 48 saves in the loss.

Ex-Sea Dogs on the Islanders: None.

Islander to watch: Lukas Cormier will have his name heard early in next week's NHL Draft. The Sainte-Marie-de-Kent native recorded two goals and 10 assists in nine games against Saint John last season.

Random stat: Charlottetown is 21-4-2-0 against Saint John over the past three seasons combined. Not great!
Notes: Jeremie Poirier leads Saint John in points and assists with two... Joshua Roy, Kale McCallum and Alex Drover all scored in Friday's game in Bathurst... Thomas Casey and Lukas Cormier each have two points to lead the Islanders... Casey has a team high two goals... the Sea Dogs and Islanders did not meet during the pre-season... Charlottetown is playing their first six games on the road as the Eastlink Centre gets converted from a COVID-19 testing site back into a hockey rink... Creed Jones is expected to start in net for Saint John. Jones and Islanders goaltender Colten Ellis played together in Rimouski last season.
