Former Saint John Sea Dogs forward Jacob Beaulieu was among the 34 players named to Swift Current's roster for the Western Hockey League's pre-season. The Broncos head coach and general manager is Travis Crickard, who obviously knows Beaulieu quite well.
Beaulieu, an overager, spent parts of four seasons in Saint John. He was a seventh-round pick of the team in the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft.
The Sea Dogs traded Beaulieu to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada during last season's holiday trade period. He appeared in 32 regular season games with the Armada and another 17 playoff contests
In 210 career QMJHL games, Beaulieu posted 16 goals and 10 assists. He also had 249 penalty minutes – and was known more for his physical presence.
The Broncos continue pre-season play on Friday when they host Saskatoon Blades.
VILEN RETURING TO WILDCATS
The Sea Dogs will be seeing a lot of Max Vilen this season.
The Moncton Wildcats announced on social media that Vilen will return to the club for another season, occupying both an overage and import slot. The Wildcats acquired Vilen from the Sea Dogs during last season's holiday trade period.
Vilen recorded a goal and 12 assists in 27 games with the Wildcats in the second half. He added three goals and nine assists in 21 playoff games.
Over the summer, the Swedish defenseman was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh-round of the NHL Draft.
Vilen was selected in the third-round of the 2025 CHL Import Draft by Saint John. He posted two goals and 12 assists in 27 games with the Sea Dogs in the first half.
KRAYER BROTHERS TO USHL
Dylan and Matthew Krayer are heading to the USHL, according to a report.

Matthew, who will turn 18 next month, appeared in 58 games with Saint John last season, posting six goals and seven assists. He was held pointless in three playoff games. The forward appeared in 30 games with Saint John the year prior.
Dylan, 19, appeared in two games with Saint John during the 2024-25 season. He spent last season with the BCHL's West Kelowna Warriors.
Dylan played two games with Tri-City in 2023-24 after being selected by the Storm in the 2023 USHL Futures Draft. Matthew was picked by the Storm in the fifth-round of the 2024 draft.

- Elite Prospects has a very early look at the 2027 QMJHL Entry Draft class.
- Reported a few weeks ago that Victory+, the free streaming service used by the WHL, was not in great financial shape. It looks like things have gotten even worse. The WHL announced Wednesday that games will be streamed for free on YouTube "on an interim basis." Both the QMJHL and OHL use FloHockey.
- The MHL's Chaleur Lightning say that everyone is okay after their team bus hit a moose while returning home from Miramichi on Sunday.
- The St. Stephen-based County Moose of the NCDC announced that Kyle Adams will return for a second season as head coach. The Moose open the regular season on Sept. 25.
