THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

As expected, former Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Karel St. Laurent has landed in British Columbia.

Through the magic of Twitter, Station Nation confirmed with the British Columbia Hockey Leagues Surrey Eagles that he has arrived on the scene.

“Yes he is,” the team tweeted after being asked if St. Laurent was now an Eagle.

According to the BCHL website, St. Laurent had his rights swapped to Surrey on Monday.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals Hockey Club transfers the BCHL CHL protection rights of Karel St. Laurent (90)(G) to the Surrey Eagles Hockey Club in exchange for future considerations.

St. Laurent isn’t currently listed on team's roster via their official roster. Reports prior to him leaving the Port City were that the goaltender hoped to land a tryout somewhere, and isn’t clear if he has officially stuck with the team or not. Two goalies – Andrew Hunt and Vinny Lessard – currently are listed on the Eagles active roster.

“Great to have him, he's a very nice kid and we look forward to his services,” the team stated.

The junior ‘A’ team currently has a record of 12-9-0-0 and sit fourth in their conference. Their next game is tomorrow evening in Langley.

St. Laurent was let go/left (not sure what the official phrase is) after the team acquired Jacob DeSerres off waivers from the Western Hockey League. DeSerres, being a 20-year and a goaltender, meant that St. Laurent was the odd man out.

St. Laurent had an impressive record of 29-11 during his time in Saint John with a goals-against average hovering around the 3.00 mark. He backed-up Robert Mayer in 2008-09, Marc-Antoine Gelinas and Marco Cousineau in 2009-10, and was platooning with Frederic Piche this season.

He was 4-1 this season with 0.901 save percentage and 2.95 goals against average prior to leaving.
