REMPARTS COULD ADVANCE TONIGHT

The Quebec Remparts can advance to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League final with a victory tonight. The Remparts currently lead the Gatineau Olympiques 3-1 in their best-of-seven semifinal playoff series. Game Five goes down this evening at 8:00 pm at Colisee Pepsi.

Game Six, if necessary, would be Sunday in Gatineau. Game Seven would be Tuesday back in Quebec City.

The winner of the series will play the Saint John Sea Dogs in the President’s Cup final which will begin sometime next week at Harbour Station. The Sea Dogs advanced to the league final after sweeping the Lewiston Maineiacs is their semifinal matchup.

Quebec advanced to the semifinal after defeating the Val-d’Or Foreurs in four straight games in the first round. Then in the quarter-finals, the Remparts and Shawinigan Cataractes needed seven games before the winner could be decided.

Gatineau eliminated the Rimouski Oceanic in five games in round one and then downed the Drummondville Voltigeurs in six games in the second round.

Saint John and Quebec have never faced each other in the playoffs. The Sea Dogs are 2-0 against them this season with a 6-0 win a home and a 4-2 win on the road.

The Dogs and Olympiques have met once previously in the post-season. That came in last year’s quarter-finals where Saint John swept them in four games. The Sea Dogs won both games in the season series by scores of 5-2 and 4-3.
