Jurco Signing Delayed

The Detroit Red Wings are having some trouble signing Tomas Jurco. From

The lack of a transfer agreement between the International Ice Hockey Federation and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation is delaying the Detroit Red Wings' signing of forward Tomas Jurco, their top draft pick in 2011 (35th overall).
Today was the deadline to sign Jurco, but it has been extended indefinitely, until the transfer agreement is reached, which should be fairly soon, Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill said.

There should be no problems signing Jurco to a three-entry level deal once an agreement is made.

All 2010 draft picks had to be signed by today's deadline. Jurco was a second round pick of the Red Wings in the 2011 NHL Draft but, according to Ansar Khan of, because of his late birthday (December 28, 1992) he has to be signed this year.

Jurco will likely play for Detroit’s American Hockey League affiliate in Grand Rapids next season.

The 19-year old had a career year with the Saint John Sea Dogs, registering 30 goals and 38 assists in 48 regular season Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games. In 16 playoff contests he added 13 goals and 16 assists. At the Memorial Cup, the skilled Slovak had two goals and an assist in four matches.
