Training camp roster reduced by two

The Saint John Sea Dogs cut two more players on Wednesday, reducing their training camp roster to 26.

Forwards Alexnadre Lafreniere and defencemen Ian Smallwood were both released. Both have been reassigned to junior ‘A.’

Both players spent last season with the Saint John Vito’s. Smallwood was a ninth round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft while Lafreniere was selected in the 11th round.

16 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders remain in camp.

Some other news and notes…

  • Single game tickets to all 34 Sea Dogs home games went on sale Thursday morning. Fans will receive a $1 discount when purchasing online this season.
  • Rogers Hometown Hockey is coming to Saint John this year, it was announced on Wednesday. It will be held Oct. 22-23 at Long Wharf.
  • RDS’ Stephane Leroux has some takes on all 18 QMJHL teams heading into the season.
