Sea Dogs' semifinal opponent could be determined Monday night

The Saint John Sea Dogs could find out who their third round playoff opponent is on Monday night.

The Sea Dogs (seeded 1st) and Charlottetown Islanders (4th) have already advanced to the QMJHL's semifinals. In the two remaining series, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens (8th) lead the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (2nd) while the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (6th) are up 3-2 on the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (5th). Both series play Game 6s tomorrow.

If a Game 7 is required for either series, it would be played on Tuesday night.

Here are the possible scenarios for Saint John:

  • If Chicoutimi and Bathurst advance: the Sea Dogs would play Chicoutimi.
  • If Chicoutimi and Blainville-Boisbriand advance: the Sea Dogs would play Chicoutimi.
  • If Rouyn-Noranda and Bathurst advance: the Sea Dogs would play Bathurst.
  • If Rouyn-Noranda and Blainville-Boisbriand advance: the Sea Dogs would play Blainville-Boisbriand.

To put it simply, if Chicoutimi advances, the Sea Dogs will play the Sagueneens. If Rouyn-Noranda advances, the Sea Dogs will play the winner of the Bathurst-Blainville series.

The Sea Dogs have not announced any details regarding their third round schedule. They will have home ice once again, though. Looking at the Harbour Station calendar, Games 1 and 2 will presumably be played on Friday/Saturday/Sunday (it's usually Friday and Saturday).

The OHL's final four is almost set as well. The Eastern Conference final will feature the Mississauga Steelheads taking on the Peterborough Petes. In the Western Conference, the Owen Sound Attack will face either the London Knights or Erie Otters. Game 7 of the London/Erie series takes place Tuesday in Erie.

In the WHL, the Seattle Thunderbirds will face the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Conference final. In the Eastern Conference, Lethbridge leads Medicine Hat 3-2 in their second round series while Regina and Swift Current are tied 3-3.
