Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs |
Lemieux, making his fifth straight start, made 38 saves and carried a shutout into the final few minutes in Saint John's 3-1 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders.
The Islanders dominated the opening frame, outshooting the Sea Dogs 14-5. Even after Riley Bezeau opened the scoring 22 seconds into the second period, the ice continued to be tilted in Charlottetown's favour.
Lemieux came up huge on a few occasions before William Dufour got the Sea Dogs some insurance at 13:43 of the third period. Michael Horth scored at 16:09 to make it a one-goal game but Cam MacDonald sealed the win with a long empty net goal at 18:36.
Charlottetown outshot Saint John 39-24. Jacob Goobie made 21 stops in the loss.
While it wasn't pretty at times, this was a huge road win for the Sea Dogs against a tough opponent. After an 0-3-0-1 start, this win should gain the team some confidence as they head into an "easier" stretch of games.
The Islanders, meanwhile, fall to 3-2-0-0 and have scored just two goals over their past two games.

SIMONEAU HURT: There was a scary moment in the first period when Xavier Simoneau took a Brett Budgell shot in the visor during a Charlottetown power play.
Scary moment as Xavier Simoneau takes a hard wrist shot to the head in front of the net.

He skates off on his own power and looks like he’ll be okay but that could have been much worse.
Then late in the third, Simoneau got hurt again in front of the net, but this time was in much more discomfort. He needed help getting off the ice and did not look too great.

FIRST GOAL: Riley Bezeau's goal in the second period opened the game's scoring. It was the first time in this young season that the Sea Dogs had scored first and one of the few times they've led in a game.
PENALTY SHOT: Import Jakub Brabenec was awarded a penalty shot at 19:59 of the second period after being hauled down on a breakaway. Brabenec shot wide on his attempt. It was the fourth penalty shot awarded in the QMJHL this season.
VS ISLES: It's going to be a battle all season between the Sea Dogs and Islanders. The Sea Dogs are now 1-2 against the Isles this year. Their next meeting is on Oct. 29 at TD Station.
CHL TV: Another game, another webcast mess. The opening half of the first period was just a black screen. When the feed did start, it was so glitchy it was basically unwatchable. Things finally took a turn for the better with about five minutes remaining in the second period.

"You should see an updated connection, this should upgrade the feed quite a bit," the CHL tweeted to a fan during the game. "I am sorry these issues continue both Saint John and Charlottetown games."
NOTES: This was the first time the Sea Dogs have played on a Thanksgiving Monday... the Islanders honoured front line healthcare workers before the game... the Sea Dogs listed seven defensemen on their lineup sheet with Hunter Gartley the final scratch... Charles Savoie was called for a faceoff violation in the second period... great to see Saint John's third line of Riley Bezeau, Charles Savoie and Olivier Picard connect for a goal. They've had some bad bounces this season... Bezeau had five shots and three hits... Lukas Cormier had eight shots... attendance was 2,969.
NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs take on the Cape Breton Eagles on Friday at 7 p.m. at TD Station.
