BATHURST - The Saint John Sea Dogs escaped the KC Irving Regional Centre with a 4-3 shootout win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday afternoon.

The Sea Dogs led 3-1 halfway through the second period. Riley Kidney scored late in the second to make it a one-goal game and then Jacob Melanson scored at 16:36 of the third period - a period that saw Bathurst outshoot Saint John 14-5 - to send the match into extra time.

After killing off a penalty in overtime, Peter Reynolds and William Dufour both scored in the shootout to secure Saint John the extra point.

Overall it wasn't a bad road game by the Sea Dogs who were no doubt feeling the impacts of playing last night on home ice. The Titan hadn't played since Friday at home.

The Titan have now lost three straight games - two of which have come against Saint John.

Reynolds, Evgeny Sapelnikov and Josh Lawrence scored in regulation for the Sea Dogs. Jonathan Lemieux, who started last night, made 39 saves in the win.

Kidney, Melanson and Dylan Andrews scored for Bathurst. Jan Bednar made 34 saves in the loss

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Ryan Francis (Stockton Heat tryout), Adam Bowness and Carter McCluskey along with defenseman Hunter Gartley.

DEBUT: Yanic Crete made his Sea Dogs and QMJHL debut on Sunday, recording two shots, a minor penalty and a -2 rating. He also registered one hit. Crete took a penalty in overtime and had a breakaway out of the box but couldn't get a shot off. The 19-year-old forward comes to the Sea Dogs from the OHL's Ottawa 67's.

PENALTIES: After allowing four power play goals against Bathurst on Wednesday, the Sea Dogs gave the Titan just one man advantage opportunity in this game - which came in overtime when Yanic Crete was called for not wearing his helmet correctly. The Sea Dogs, meanwhile, went 2/4 on the power play.

REYNOLDS: It's been a slow start to the season for Peter Reynolds but he had one of his better games on Sunday, recording a goal, an assist and a shootout tally. He now has three goals and five points in 10 games.

EXTRA TIME: This was the fourth time this season the Sea Dogs went into extra time. They are 2-2 in those games. This was also Saint John's first shootout victory of the year.

VS TITAN: The Sea Dogs improved to 2-1-0-1 against the Titan this season with the victory. After playing each other four times in the opening month of the season, the two don't meet again until Dec. 18 at TD Station.

NOTES: Paul Boutilier was behind the Sea Dogs bench for a second straight game... Charles Savoie and William Dufour each had seven shots... Olivier Picard was credited with seven hits... Brady Burns had his nine-game point streak come to an end... Jonathan Lemieux, who started last night's game as well, picked up his second win of the season.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs take on the Charlottetown Islanders on Friday at 7 p.m. at TD Station.
