Notebook: Dogs to honour Fredericton Canadiens

For a second time this season, the Saint John Sea Dogs will wear some AHL inspired threads.

Back in November, the Sea Dogs wore Saint John Flames jerseys that were redesigned to match the Sea Dogs' current blue, black and grey colours. On Sunday, the team will wear the blue, white and red of the Fredericton Canadiens.

The team teased the jerseys that they'll wear Sunday afternoon at the Aitken Centre earlier this week.
The Canadiens played at the Aitken Centre in the 1990s. They relocated to Quebec City in 1999.

This will be the sixth time this season the Sea Dogs wear a speciality jersey. They are 1-4-0-0 so far.

Nov. 15 vs Quebec (4-0 W) - Pink in the Rink
Nov. 21 vs Wildcats (8-4 L) - Saint John Flames Night
Dec. 7 vs Wildcats (4-2 L) - Christmas Jerseys
Dec. 17 vs Mooseheads (4-3 L) - Christmas Jerseys
Jan. 24 vs Phoenix (6-3 L) - Superhero Jerseys

Sunday's game will also be Saint John's third and final regular season match in Fredericton. They are 1-1-0-0 in the Capital City Series so far.

NEW LETTERS
The Sea Dogs announced this week that forward Maxime Côté and defensemen Olivier Duhamel will join the team's leadership group for the remainder of the season. Both had an 'A' on their jersey Thursday in Moncton.
The two join Angelo Fullerton as alternates. Olivier Groulx continues to wear the captain's 'C.'

Jacob Beaulieu (20 games) and Natan Éthier (10 games) were previously alternates this season.

MORE ON JOSEPH

Later that day, RDS shared this graphic, showing that Joseph leads all 16-year-olds across the CHL in scoring.
I also mentioned that Joseph loves to score using that power forward move where he cuts through the top of the crease area. The QMJHL shared the below comparing a couple of his goals.
DUFOUR TO FORT WAYNE
Former Sea Dogs forward William Dufour is on the move again.

The ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets – a popular destination for former Sea Dogs – announced that Dufour has signed with the club earlier this week.
Dufour made his Komets debut on Friday and recorded one shot and a +1 rating in Fort Wayne's 6-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones. Former Sea Dogs Matt Murphy and Nick Deakin-Poot are also on the Komets' roster.

The 24-year-old started the year in the KHL before returning to North America, playing four games in the LNAH. He then signed with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins where he posted a goal in six games before signing in Fort Wayne.

OTHER THINGS
  • Sea Dogs forward William Yared is now represented by Allan Walsh of Octagon. Walsh has represented plenty of Sea Dogs over the years, most notably Jonathan Huberdeau.
  • The Sea Dogs will be putting on some miles in February. The team will make their second and final trip to Newfoundland and will make their fourth and final regular season trip to Quebec.
  • Moncton short track speed skater Courtney Sarault is projected to win a couple medals at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games. Her brother, Chris, was a Sea Dogs draft pick in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft while her father, Yves, played with both the Fredericton Canadiens and Saint John Flames.
  • Le Soleil reported this week that more than half of the QMJHL's general managers support the loosening of the league's fighting rules. Coincidentally (or maybe not), fighting has been picking up in recent weeks across the league.
  • The Moncton Wildcats were fifth in the CHL Top-10 this week while the Chicoutimi Sagueneens slid to third. The WHL's Prince Albert Raiders were first.
  • 19-year-old Sagueneens forward Maxime Masse has committed to UMass for next season.
  • The Rimouski Oceanic lost their ninth straight game on Friday, falling 6-4 to the Val-d'Or Foreurs. It's the second longest losing streak in the league this season, second only to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar's 12-game skid in the fall.
