MISSING IN ACTION: Tomas Jurco is currently not with the
team for school reasons. According to News 88.9, he will not play on Sunday
and is questionable for Wednesday’s game in Halifax. Defenseman Spencer
MacDonald was a healthy scratch while forward Devon Oliver-Dares is still out
with a broken collarbone.
STREAK: The loss ended Saint John’s winning streak at 17
games. It was the Sea Dogs’ first loss since January 12 when they fell to the
Shawinigan Cataractes 4-1 at Harbour Station. The Dogs have still not lost in
regulation in their past 18 games.
BEAUREGARD: It was a special night in Chicoutimi as
former Sea Dog Alexandre Beauregard returned to the Sagueneens
lineup after battling thyroid cancer. Beauregard was given a loud ovation when
he took the ceremonial faceoff with Jonathan Huberdeau.
Beauregard, predictably, didn’t play a whole lot. He did
take a cross checking penalty early in the first and finished the game with one
shot and two hits.
In an interview with News 88.9, Beauregard said he will
have further treatment later this year.
Buzzing The Net has a post on his return.
VS THE SAGS: The Sea Dogs are probably happy that this
was the final regular season meeting between the two this year. They finish
with a 1-1-0-1 record against Chicoutimi which includes last night’s shootout
loss and an 8-3 loss at Harbour Station back in December.
Saint John is 10-5-0-1 against the tough Telus East
Division heading into tomorrow’s game against Shawinigan.
GAUTHIER: Danick Gauthier scored twice last night, giving
him 44 goals on the year. He is just two away from tying Mike Hoffman’s single
season goal scoring record of 46. Gauthier has four games left to reach the
record.
Gauthier also became the first Sea Dog this season to
reach the 80-point mark. He has two more points than Zack Phillips for the team lead.
PHILLIPS: Zack Phillips scored last night giving the Sea
Dogs a 3-2 lead at the time - their only lead of the game. He has just two
points – both goals – in his past four games.
PENALTY SHOT: Guillaume Asselin scored on a penalty shot
in the third period to tie it at 3-3. According to the QMJHL, the goal
was only the seventh penalty shot marker on 30 attempts in the league this year.
WEBCAST: The Chicoutimi webcast is pretty good until it turns to
the right corner.
NOTES: Sellout crowd of 3,717 watched the game at the
Georges Vezina Centre… both teams went 1/4 on the power play… it was an
uneventful night for former Sea Dogs defensemen Gabriel Bourret and Guillaume
Cloutier… both teams scored one goal each in each 20-minute period… Charlie Coyle
and Danick Gauthier each had six shots for Saint John… Gauthier and Charles
Roussel each had three hits… Jean-Gabriel Pageau had five shots for Chicoutimi.
STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs now have a four-point lead on the
Shawinigan Cataractes in the race for first place and have a game in hand. Saint
John can clinch first place for a third straight season with a win in
Shawinigan tomorrow.
NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs head to Shawinigan to take on the
Cataractes on Sunday at 5pm. It should be a good one.
