Jacob DeSerres has been named the CIS Goaltender of the
Year and a First Team All-Canadian.
The former Sea Dogs goaltender posted an impressive
13-2-0 record with the University of Calgary Dinos this season to go along with
a 2.15 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. He finished third in
the Canada West conference in wins, GAA, and SV%. In the playoffs, DeSerres
went 2-2 with a 2.49 GAA and .910 SV%.
The Dinos finished the regular season with a 21-4-3
record which placed them second overall behind the University of Alberta Golden
Bears. The Dinos then lost the Canada West final to the rival Golden Bears.
DeSerres played one season with the Sea Dogs, helping the
team win their first President Cup and Memorial Cup in 2011.
This year’s University Cup begins on Thursday in
Saskatoon. The host Saskatchewan Huskies will be joined by the Golden Bears,
Acadia Axemen, Windsor Lancers, McGill Redmen, and Carleton Ravens. Defenseman
Jason Seed (Carleton), goaltender Karel St. Laurent (Redmen), and goaltender Matthew Dopud (Carleton) are the only
former Sea Dogs taking part in this year’s tournament.
The 2015 and 2016 editions of the University Cup will be
held at the Halifax Metro Centre.
