DOGS RESPOND TO LEAGUE RULING

After watching their captain receive a one game suspension, the Saint John Sea Dogs are not exactly happy campers going into game four tonight (8:00 pm, News 88.9).

"The league took action,'' said the suspended Mike Thomas in today’s Telegraph-Journal. "I can't do anything about it. I just have to be ready for the next game.''

The play happened in the first period of Tuesday’s game in Victoriaville. Thomas hammered Keven Dupont into the glass, where the Tigres defenseman reportedly suffered a broken nose and concussion.

Thomas was given only a two minute charging penalty on the play.

La Nouvelle/L'Union first reported the news that the hit was under review by the league. The Saint John media said today that THIS PICTURE of Thomas leaving his feet on the play was also sent in.

Although head coach Gerard Gallant would not comment to the Telegraph-Journal’s Scott Briggs, associate coach and director of hockey operations Mike Kelly was not too pleased.

Briggs reports that Kelly had an “intense conversation with (QMJHL disciplinary prefect Raymond) Bolduc via cell phone upon learning of the ruling Thursday.”

The news coincides with a Tweet sent out by Haligonia Sports reporter Jenn Casey yesterday.

“Assoc. Coach Mike Kelly had some colourful words for the league,” says Casey.

Station Nation tried to get the details on Kelly’s comments, but Casey would not bite.

“All I can say is he was upset. Which really I can't blame him.”
