HOFFMAN IN SENATORS' PLANS

The Saint John Sea Dogs’ and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player, Mike Hoffman, is ready to start his professional playing career.

The winger-turned-center was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 2009 National Hockey League entry draft in the fifth round, 130 overall.

After turning heads over the past two seasons, the Senators have plans for the Kitchener, Ont. Native.

“(Assistant General Manager Tim) Murray also plans to sign forward Mike Hoffman, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's most valuable player with the Saint John Sea Dogs,” reports the Ottawa Citizen.

Hoffman was named the Sea Dogs’ and QMJHL’s MVP after scoring 46 goals and 39 assists in 56 games during the regular season. In the playoffs, the assistant captain had 11 goals and 13 assists in 21 games.

In his first season with the Gatineau Olympiques and Drummondville Voltigeurs in 2007-08, Hoffman had 48 points in 62 games. In 2008-09 with the league champion Voltigeurs, Hoffman put up 94 points in 62 games.

Along with picking up two MVP awards, Hoffman was also the league’s most sportsmanlike player. He picked up three other Sea Dogs team awards: three stars, fan's choice, and top scorer.
"We have a master list in place," Murray said Friday, after several days of discussions with director of player personnel Pierre Dorion, director of player development Randy Lee and the remainder of the team's scouts. "But it could possibly change after the NHL (scouting) combine. That might raise some red flags."

The Senators' AHL affiliate plays in Binghamton, New York.

  1. Just a small mistake; Hoffman played 56 games this season.

It would be hard to play 85 games in a 68 game schedule know wouldn't it.
