Robert Mayer and the East Coast Hockey League’s Cincinnati Cyclones look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead in the Kelly Cup Final tonight.
The former Sea Dogs goaltender is coming off a shutout against the Idaho Steelheads on Saturday, a win that gave the Cyclones a 2-0 series edge heading back home.
"I think we have a strong D-corps, including the goaltenders," said Brock Sheahan to Cincinnati.com. "They're top-notch. I don't think either one of them (Robert Mayer and Jeremy Smith) are going to be around this league for long. I don't think you can find a stronger skating D-corps in our league. That's worked well for us - and the forwards help a lot."
The Cyclones had quit a ride to get back from Boise, Idaho. Their journey included flight stops in Reno, Nev., to Las Vegas to Indianapolis and then a bus trip to Cincinnati.
Mayer is 4-0 in the post-season with three shutouts, a 1.17 goals-against average and a save percentage of .952.
Cincinnati is second in the playoffs with 2.48 goals-against per game.
Game time tonight in is 8:30 pm at U.S. Bank Arena. Game four goes Thursday at the same time and venue.
