SEA DOGS NOTEBOOK

PAYOFF TIME
Sea Dogs fan and host of “The Afternoon News” on News 88.9, Tom Young, had his head shaved last week as part of a bet with Wildcats fan and News 91.9 radio host Dan Ahlstrand.

“The host of the Afternoon News got his head shaved on the air to start today's show, courtesy of Big Mike from Big Mike's Barber Shop in Grand Bay-Westfield,” reports News 88.9.

Tyler McLean, the executive producer of the Afternoon News, is also expected to pay his "debt."

WANT AD
Even though Marco Cousineau was sensational in net for Saint John during the six game President’s Cup Final, one fan is a little ticked off over his Game Six performance.

The following was posted on Kijiji Saint John this past week:

After Last nights Performance in Moncton, we could really use a PUCK STOPPING goaltender...If Interested Apply within

Training consist of keeping a beach ball out of the net.

GOOD TUNE
CBC reporter Robert Jones delivers his prediction for the price at the pumps this week and settles his bet with Dave MacDonald over the Moncton Wildcats. Warning: some listeners and music teachers may find the following item disturbing.

Sadly, it isn’t a bad tune. THE SONG was featured on Moncton’s "Information Morning Show" on Wednesday.

THE GREAT DESPRESSION
Stanislav Galiev summed up Game Six of the President’s Cup Final in one word to NHL.com: “sad.”

Galiev, who was held without a point in the six game QMJHL Final series against the Moncton Wildcats, isn’t taking the fact that his team lost in the Final lightly.

"It's the final; it's the best games of the year. I may not have a chance later to play in a final, so you want to play hard and play your best game," Galiev said. "It's a good experience because we have young guys in our group. It's good for the future. We know we have to work hard every game."

PHOTO TIME
A couple photo’s from our buddy/enemy Marc Grandmaison to share with you.

The first is an editorial from the newspaper L’Acadie Nouvelle this past week. The second is a photo of a rather cruel joke he played on Pierre Durepos’ mother’s car.

CAPE BRETON PRIDE
Wildcats assistant coach Fabian Joseph told the Cape Breton Post that the QMJHL Final was a “tough series.” Joseph also gave some love for fellow Cape Bretoner and Sea Dogs leading playoff point getter Michael Kirkpatrick.

“(Kirkpatrick’s) a character kid and comes to play every night,” added Joseph of the Sea Dogs star, who finished atop the league in playoff scoring with 15 goals and 16 assists in 21 games. “Any team would love to have a guy like Kirkpatrick on their hockey club and he certainly showed his team that he had no quit in him.”

PLAYS OF THE WEEK
With only two teams in the league left playing last week, you can probably guess where the Mazda Plays of the Week come from.

CANUCKS LOOK TO FUTURE
Following yet another second round playoff exit, the Vancouver Canucks are beginning to look to the future. In a year end press conference, general manager Mike Gillis made reference to Sea Dogs defenseman Yann Sauve when speaking of Vancouver’s next wave on the backend.

Props to Cody for sending this in.

IT’S OFFICIAL
It is almost official that the Sea Dogs are joined by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Halifax Mooseheads, and Shawinigan Cataractes in the bidding for the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

In an interview with the Times & Transcript this week, Commissioner Gilles Courteau said that it is simply coincidental that the league has been rotating between Quebec and the Maritimes for tournament placement.
