WELCOME TO INSANITY

31 minutes was all it took.

In a little over half-an-hour, every seat and standing room spot at Harbour Station was sold-out for game five of the President’s Cup Final between the Moncton Wildcats and Saint John Sea Dogs. The quick sell-out is a record for a hockey game at the facility.

“Over 100 people lined up at Harbour Station hours before the box office opened this morning to lock up their tickets for Game Five of the Presidents Cup Final on Saturday,” reports CHSJ News.

According to several sources, the lineup began at 5:00 am with the box office not opening until 10:00 am. Fans were also able to grab tickets online and by phone.

Student Adam Binns was first in line.

“This series has really taken on a life of its own,” said team president Wayne Long in a release. “Hockey fans throughout southern New Brunswick have come down with a case of playoff fever and we’re looking forward to some more exciting action this weekend.”

Kijiji Saint John is already loaded with folks looking to gain possession of the hottest ticket in New Brunswick. At the time of this publication, there were already 10 posts looking for entrance passes.

According to the Sea Dogs’ twitter page, a pair of tickets will be given away tomorrow morning on CBC Information Morning (91.3 FM) following the 7:30am newscast.

Many fans were frustrated with the day’s events. Although no rules were broken, something does not seem just about over 6,000 tickets being sold in 30 minutes. But that’s business for you.

"Increased revenue from ticket sales and concessions and such, it's an added bonus for the team, it's all good," said Rick Bowness Jr., marketing and communications director of the Saint John Sea Dogs to News 88.9.

Games one and three were sold-out at Harbour Station as well as game two in Moncton. Tomorrow night’s game four at the Moncton Coliseum will also be played before a capacity crowd.

Prior to game three in Saint John, the Canadian Hockey League released 300 tickets for the game. But don’t expect that to happen this time, with people who called in or were at the box office being placed on a waiting list for those.

Tickets for the game were expected to go quickly.

"I'll bet people are going to be lined up for hours,'' said Long to the Telegraph-Journal. "The number of people out there is going to be unprecedented."

The Sea Dogs and Rogers TV have come to an agreement to broadcast game five of the series after the first two tilts at the Station were not. Game four on Friday in Wildtown will be on the Tube beginning at 7:30 pm.

"Televising the game is a great way for us to show our product across the province, and it also helps us build our brand,'' Long said. "Not only does it help us, but it also helps the Wildcats and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, too."

  1. That's awesome... but not all of Saint John's Greatest Fans will be attending unfortunately. I know there were a lot of people that didn't get any tickets =(
