The Vancouver Sun recently released more info on the unfortunate accident.
“Vancouver Canucks prospect Yann Sauve was hit by a motor vehicle while walking in a crosswalk in downtown Vancouver on Saturday,” reports Ian Walker. “According to police, the do-not-cross red hand signal was operating when the accident along Burrard Street near Smithe occurred. The Montreal native suffered abrasions to his face and body. He was taken to hospital and promptly released.”
“Sauve was not among those on the ice for an informal skate by Canuck players and prospects at Rogers Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday,” added Walker.
The Telegraph-Journal first reported the accident in this morning’s newspaper. The only details that were given were that "he is making very good progress,” according to a statement released by the Canucks. “He is continuing to be evaluated and his playing status will be updated at a later time.”
The Canucks rookies are scheduled to play in the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, British Columbia this weekend. Other teams at the tournament include San Jose, Anaheim, and Calgary.
According to the Sun, "his status for the five-team tournament will be determined following a medical exam on Friday."
The 20-year old can return to the Sea Dogs but is likely to stick with the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose. Sauve signed a three-year entry level contract with the Canucks in May.
In four seasons with QMJHL Saint John, Sauve has 20 goals and 82 assists in 251 regular season games.
