Two Saint John Sea Dogs second year players will have a different look this season.
The Sea Dogs’ official Twitter page reports that Tomas Jurco and Zach Phillips will switch numbers this season. Jurco will go from 91 to 13 while Phillips will change to 7 from his 51.
Only one player previously wore number 13 for Saint John. That was Danick Gauthier, who wore the digits for 25 games in 2008-09.
Jurco was the first player in Sea Dogs history to wear 91 when he made is Quebec Major Junior Hockey League debut last season. The number worked well as Jurco scored a team rookie record 26 goals and added another 25 assists.
Only Stanislav Galiev, who wears 97, has worn a higher number for the Dogs.
Of note, Halifax Mooseheads import Martin Frk recently told the Herd that he would like to wear 91 for the upcoming season.
Phillips scored 16 goals and 28 assists in a 51 jersey last season. The last person to wear number seven was David Stich, who wore the number for 136 games between 2007 and 2009. Other players to wear the number are Kyle Kelly and Jean-Philippe Cote.
