Currently 2-3-0-0 in exhibition play, Saint John must win tonight if order to finish at the .500 winning percentage mark. Saint John is coming off a 2-1 loss against the Halifax Mooseheads on Wednesday evening at Harbour Station.
"I thought we played well enough to win the game, but we didn't get the bounces," Saint John forward Stephen MacAulay said about Wednesday night's effort to the Telegraph-Journal. "I think it was one of our best pre-season games so far."
This will be the first meeting between these two teams since Game Five of the opening round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs last season. The two teams will play each other on September 10 at Harbour Station in the season opener for both clubs.
The Sea Dogs had their hands full with the Rocket last season. Saint John was 5-3-0-0 against PEI and 3-1-0-0 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. The three loses to PEI counted as 1/4 of the Sea Dogs’ regulation loses last season.
Of note, Saint John, the league’s best road team last year, has yet to win as a visitor in the pre-season.
PEI is 2-1-0-1 so far in the pre-season. Josh Currie currently leads the Rocket in scoring with a pair of goals and assists.
Stanislav Galiev leads the Dogs in scoring with two goals and an assist.
“Evan Mosher (1-0) starts for the Rocket in goal tonight and should play the entire game,” reports Charles Reid of The Guardian. “Defenceman Kevin Boyer (shoulder) is a game-time decision. “
With Frederic Piche playing the full 60-minutes in Saint John’s loss last night, Karel St. Laurent will likely get the call between the pipes.
