News & Notes From Camp Day 3

SAINT JOHN – Team White edged Team Blue in yet another entertaining scrimmage at Sea Dogs training camp on Wednesday.

White was the better team for much of the first half but only managed to lead 3-2. Play seemed to get more even as the game went along but White would never fall behind. Blue even pulled their goalie in the final minute to try and tie things up but could not, falling 5-4 to White.

Going off my own notes and the tweets of HockeyProspect.com's Kevin Chambers, I believe Juraj Siska scored twice while singles came from Ryan Migliaccio, Stefano Pezzetta, Mitchell Dempsey, Adam Bateman, Alex Kealey, Isaac Ceh, and Declan Smith.

Here are some random news and notes from Wednesday’s action…
  • There were certainly some surprises on defense. Veteran forwards Kelly Bent and Mark Tremaine were both used as defensemen while former Sea Dog and current AHL d-man Kevin Gagne suited up.
  • Gagne was Gagne, making some sharp passes and going end-to-end with the puck a few times.
  • Sebastien Auger got the start in net for Blue while Blade Mann-Dixon started for White. Bobby Dugan took over for Auger in the second while Nick Vilardo replaced Mann-Dixon.
  • Troy MacTavish and Drew Gross each wore cages on their helmets.
  • Near the midway point of the second, Mathieu Joseph and Alexander McQuaid got into a little shoving match.
  • Juraj Siska scored a couple of nice goals today. It’s pretty much impossible not to cheer for this guy. If he doesn’t end up winning the second import spot, I hope he has a great junior career wherever he lands.
  • Stefano Pezzetta just keeps scoring goals.
  • Went to Mother Nature’s after the scrimmage. Really solid lasagna.
  • Tomorrow, two practices are scheduled. One takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. while the other goes from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Another remainder that Saint John begins the pre-season on Friday night at Harbour Station against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Tickets to that game are free.
