SHERBROOKE, Que. – For the fifth time in
11 seasons, the Saint John Sea Dogs will select first overall in the QMJHL
Entry Draft.
This year’s draft takes place this
morning at 11 a.m. Atlantic time in Sherbrooke. TVA Sports will be broadcasting
the event this year.
The Sea Dogs appear poised to do
something they haven’t done in the past with the first overall choice – pick a
forward. After taking Alex Grant (2005), Yann Sauve (2006), Simon Despres
(2007) and Luke Green (2014), it would be shocking if the team didn’t use the
first overall pick on “exceptional” forward Joseph Veleno.
It’ll be a historic day for the league
as Veleno becomes the first player in QMJHL history to receive exceptional
player status. Via John Moore, here’s Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young
talking about Veleno.
The Sea Dogs will also be picking ninth
and 10th overall today, although there has been plenty of
speculation that the team wants to move up to get another early first round
pick.
Here are all of Saint John’s picks:
Round 1 - 1st overall
Round 1 - 9th overall
Round 1 - 10th overall
Round 3 - 51st overall
Round 4 – 57th overall

Round 9 - 154th overall
Round 9 - 159th overall
