Six of the eight teams have been confirmed for the university men's hockey national championship: UNB, StFX, York, Queen's, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The Varsity Reds, this year's hosts, feature four former Sea Dogs: Mike Thomas, Stephen Anderson, Matt Murphy and Oliver Cooper. The X-Men, who will battle UNB for the Atlantic University Sport championship, feature Marcus Cuomo and Mark Tremaine.
The best-of-three AUS final begins tonight at the Aitken Centre.
There is one more AUS spot at nationals up for grabs, which will be determined in a best-of-three series that begins tonight between the Saint Mary's Huskies and Acadia Axemen. The Huskies feature former Dogs Adam Bateman and Noah Zilbert.
In Ontario, there will be no Sea Dogs alumni playing in next Saturday's winner-take-all Queen's Cup championship after the York Lions defeated the Windsor Lancers in the OUA Western Conference final on Saturday. York will now face Queen's for the OUA title next Saturday.
The Lancers, who feature Justice Dundas and Steven Anthony, still have a shot at nationals, though. They'll travel to Montreal on Friday to face the McGill Redmen in the OUA bronze medal game - which will also determine the final OUA University Cup berth.
In Canada West action, the Alberta Golden Bears defeated Saskatchewan Huskies for the conference championship. Both have earned spots at nationals.
The University Cup will be played March 16-19 at UNB. Saturday' semifinals and Sunday's final will be broadcast on Sportsnet 360. The bronze medal game will be played at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday (not a typo).
