HALIFAX - For one reason or another, the Saint John Sea Dogs have enjoyed playing the Halifax Mooseheads this season.
The Sea Dogs picked up their third win of the season over the Mooseheads on Saturday night at Scotiabank Centre, hanging on for a 4-3 victory. This was only the Sea Dogs' second road win of the year.
The Sea Dogs led for much of the game, leading 3-0 at one point. Halifax pressed hard in the third period, outshooting Saint John 16-5. The Mooseheads got within one early in the third and then tied the match at 3-3 at 14:22 with a five-on-three power play goal. Less than a minute after the Moose tied the game, Matt Gould scored on a shorthanded breakaway, which proved to be the game-winner.
Saint John was opportunistic with scoring chances, netting four goals on just 14 shots. Zachary Bouthillier had a strong night in the Sea Dogs' net, stopping 34 shots.Wheeeeeeeels @_gouldy17 pic.twitter.com/W88Irsrigu— Anthony Stella (@AnthonyStella_) November 3, 2019

TOP LINE: After being held off the scoresheet in their last meeting with Saint John, the Mooseheads' lethal top line of Raphael Lavoie, Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Maxim Trepanier helped setup all three of Halifax's goals.
CLOSE CALL: Saint John's first goal of the game went under review after Ben Badalamenti ran into Moose goaltender Alexis Gravel on the play. The call on the ice was a goal and the call stood after a short review. The goal ended an eight-game goalless drought for Badalamenti.
FIRST GOAL: Julian Vander Voet became the second Sea Dogs defenseman to score his first QMJHL goal in as many games. Joona Lehmus netted his first on Thursday against Rimouski. The goal was also Vander Voet's first QMJHL point.
FIRST IN A WHILE: While William Villeneuve has been impressive offensively this season, his goal on Saturday was his first since Saint John's second game of the season. Villeneuve has enjoyed playing the Mooseheads this year, recording two goals and four assists in four games.
PK PROBS: After allowing nine power play goals over the past two games, the Sea Dogs had a much better performance on Saturday. It looked like the Dogs might have a perfect game until the Mooseheads tied things up late with a five-on-three power play marker.
VS MOOSE: The Sea Dogs are now 3-1 against the Mooseheads this season. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan are the only other team the Sea Dogs have more than one win against this season.
NOT THIS TIME: Saint John's only loss against the Mooseheads this season saw the Dogs blow a two-goal lead. It looked like Saturday's game might be the same tale, but Matt Gould solved that problem.
PEETERS PROBLEM: Import forward Senna Peeters now has four goals in four games against Saint John.
NOTES: Alexis Gravel started in net for Halifax after Cole McLaren had started the past two Mooseheads games against Saint John... the Moose continue to be hit by the injury bug. With Walter Flower out, Zachary Byard made his QMJHL debut. The Moose had three rookie defenseman in their lineup... this was the first game of a stretch of six straight road games for Saint John.
NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs take on the Armada in Boisbriand on Saturday at 5 p.m.
