Canada wins world junior gold in Halifax

HALIFAX
- It was a golden night for Joshua Roy and Team Canada.

The former Saint John Sea Dogs forward setup Dylan Guenther's overtime goal to give Canada a 3-2 victory over Czechia in Thursday's gold medal game of the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.
It was an impressive world juniors for Roy, who once again displayed his strong two-way play and penalty killing work. He finished the tournament with five goals and six assists in seven games and was named one of Canada's best players at the tournament.

Roy also helped Canada win gold at this past summer's world junior - which also ended in overtime.

Guenther scored two goals for Canada while captain Shane Wright added the other. The Canadians led 2-0 in the third period only to have Czechia score twice in a span of less than a minute to force overtime.

It was another electric night inside Scotiabank Centre which had an announced attendance of 10,735.
Roy, now a member of the Sherbrooke Phoenix, was one of four QMJHL players to win gold. Canada also featured forwards Nathan Gaucher (Quebec Remparts), Tyson Hinds (Sherbrooke Phoenix) and Zach Dean (Gatineau Olympiques).

Earlier in the day, the United States defeated Sweden in a wild 8-7 overtime game to claim the bronze.
