Game Day 40: at Rimouski

RIMOUSKI, QC - The Saint John Sea Dogs play the final game of their three-game Quebec road trip today.

It's been a frustrating road trip so far for the Sea Dogs, dropping two close games in similar fashion. The team fell 5-4 in Chicoutimi on Wednesday and 5-3 in Baie-Comeau on Thursday, surrendering two early third period goals in both losses.

The Sea Dogs will look to tighten things up today against the Oceanic. This is Saint John's first visit to Rimouski since last season's first-round playoff matchup. The Sea Dogs outshot the Oceanic 40-14 on May 10, 2022 but lost 1-0 due to the 40-save shutout performance by Patrik Hamrla.

Game time today is 5 p.m. Atlantic.

2022-23 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 13-24-1-1 for 28 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/18th QMJHL) while the Oceanic are 23-17-1-1 for 48 points (second East/third Eastern/seventh QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-3 loss in Baie-Comeau on Thursday. Peter Reynolds, Danny Akkouche and Alexis Cournoyer scored for Saint John. Ventsislav Shingarov made 36 saves in the loss. The Oceanic are coming off a 4-3 home loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes last night. Xavier Filion scored a pair of goals for Rimouski while Julien Beland added a single. Patrik Hamrla made 26 saves in the loss.

2022-23 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 0-1-0-0 against the Oceanic this season while Rimouski is 1-0-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Jan. 8 at TD Station where the Oceanic defeated the Sea Dogs 4-1. Julien Beland scored a pair of goals for Rimouski while singles came from Maxime Coursol and Jan Sprynar. Jeremie Richard scored Saint John's lone goal. Gabriel Robert made 18 saves in the win. Ventsislav Shingarov made 24 stops in the loss.

Oceanic to watch: Jan Sprynar continues to lead all QMJHL rookies in goals with 17. He scored against Saint John in their last meeting.
