Game Day 38: at Chicoutimi

CHICOUTIMI, QC - The Saint John Sea Dogs begin a three-game road trip through eastern Quebec tonight.

The Sea Dogs take on the Chicoutimi Sagueneens this evening at 8:30 p.m. Atlantic. Tomorrow the Sea Dogs travel to Baie-Comeau before wrapping up the trip on Saturday in Rimouski.

The Sags sit one game below .500 with an 18-19-2-0 record but have won back-to-back games - including a 6-4 victory over the Western Conference leading Victoriaville Tigres on Sunday.

2022-23 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 13-22-1-1 for 28 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/18th QMJHL) while the Sagueneens are 18-19-2-0 for 38 points (third East/fifth Eastern/11th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off 4-1 home loss to the Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday. Jeremie Richard scored Saint John's only goal. Ventsislav Shingarov made 24 saves in the loss. The Sags are coming off a 6-4 win over the Victoriaville Tigres on Sunday. Edouard Carrier, Emmanuel Vermette, Andrei Loshko, Maxim Masse, Zachary Gravel and Alexis Morin scored for Chicoutimi. Charles-Antoine Lavallee made 25 stops in the win.

2022-23 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 0-1-0-0 against the Sageuneens this season while Chicoutimi is 1-0-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Nov. 10 at TD Station where the Sagueneens defeated the Sea Dogs 8-4. Fabrice Fortin had a hat trick for Chicoutimi; Zachary Gravel scored twice; and singles came from Eliott Robert, Peteris Bulans and Jacob Newcombe. Brady Burns had a pair of goals for Saint John while Nicholas Blagden and Vince Elie added singles. Charles-Antoine Lavallee made 21 saves in the win. Nikolas Hurtubise and Ventsislav Shingarov took the loss in net.

Sagueneens to watch: Maxim Masse, the third overall pick in the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft, leads all rookies in scoring with 36 points and assists with 23.

Random stat: Chicoutimi is averaging 9.64 penalty minutes per game, the second fewest in the league.
