The Detroit Red Wings finally signed Tomas Jurco to a three-year
entry-level contract today. The Red Wings have reportedly been trying to sign
the former Saint John Sea Dogs forward to a deal but had been unable to due to a lack of a transfer agreement between the International Ice Hockey
Federation and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation.
Cap Geek, who reported the signing last night, has contract details.
Jurco was a second round pick of Detroit in the 2011 NHL Draft. The
Slovak registered 68 points in 48 games with the Sea Dogs last season. He added
29 points in 16 playoff contests and recorded another three points in four Memorial
Cup games.
Jurco is expected to play with the American Hockey League’s
Grand Rapids Griffins this year.
The Red Wings website has a big time article on Jurco.
When asked what his backup plan is if hockey doesn’t work out:
“I would love to be an actor,” Jurco said. “I want to be in a movie one day. I really like movies and just being part of a movie would be really cool to me.”
