The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced their first round
of cuts from 2012 training camp.
According to the team, goaltenders Drew Michals, Jamaes
Edwardson, and Shawn Jeffrey along with defenseman Thomas Leonard were all
released on Friday in order to keep their NCAA eligibility.
Michals, a Newton, Mass. native, was a ninth round pick
of the Sea Dogs in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft. Jeffrey was a ninth round pick of
the Dogs in 2011 while Edwardson was a free agent invite from Ontario. Leonard,
a Rothsay native, was also an free agent invitee.
The Sea Dogs now have three netminders remaining at camp:
Sebastien Auger, Alex Fournier, and Richard Tingley.
Forwards Mark Creaser, Jeremy Brown and Jacob McNutt were
all cut yesterday. Creaser and McNutt were both invites while Brown was a 14th
round pick of Saint John in June.
The Sea Dogs travel to Tracadie-Sheila on Wednesday to
play the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in pre-season play. The team will then take a
break and resume action with main camp on September 4.
