As always, The Hockey News Yearbook has listed the top
10 prospects for all 30 National Hockey League teams.
Not surprisingly, Jonathan Huberdeau is the top ranked
former/current Saint John Sea Dog. Huberdeau was ranked first in the Florida
Panthers organization, an organization that was ranked second in the NHL by
THN.
THN lists Huberdeau as a candidate for the NHL’s Rookie
of the Year award. Another candidates were Nail Yakupov, Mikael Granlund,
Dougie Hamilton, Sven Baertschi, Chris Kreider, and Valdimir Tarasenko. In a
fan poll, 9% of voters thought Huberdeau would win the Calder.
Here’s where the other former/current Sea Dogs were
ranked in their organizations:
Tomas Jurco – No. 6 Detroit Red Wings
Jonathan Huberdeau – No. 1 Florida Panthers
Charlie Coyle – No. 4 Minnesota Wild
Zack Phillips – No. 8 Minnesota Wild
Nathan Beaulieu – No. 2 Montreal Canadiens
Eric Gelinas – No. 4 New Jersey Devils
Simon Despres – No. 4 Pittsburgh Penguins
Yann Sauve – No. 7 Vancouver Canucks
Stanislav Galiev – No. 4 Washington Capitals
Huberdeau and Despres are both projected to be in the NHL
this season by the magazine. Coyle and Sauve are projected to be in The Show in
2013-14, Jurco, Beaulieu, and Gelinas in 2014-15, and Phillips and Galiev in
2015-16.
