Big Night For Former Sea Dogs

It was a big night for former Saint John Sea Dogs in the American Hockey League last night.

Zack Phillips netted his first AHL goal in the Houston Aeros’ 5-1 win over the Texas Stars. The goal came unassisted at 13:46 of the third period.  Phillips was named third star of the game.

Charlie Coyle scored his second goal of the season in the game and also recorded four shots on goal.

Tomas Jurco had a good night for the Grand Rapids Griffins in their 4-3 loss to the Rochester Americans. The Slovakian forward scored his first professional goal at 5:48 of the first period. From the Griffins website:

Tomas Jurco tallied the first goal of his professional career and of the night at 5:48 of the first period. Trevor Parkes beat a Rochester defenseman to a loose puck and found a wide-open Jurco in front of the net on a pass from the right corner. Jurco wasted no time sneaking a shot under goaltender David Leggio’s right arm to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

Jurco also had three shots and was a +1.

Meanwhile, Danick Gauthier made his professional debut with the Syracuse Crunch. Gauthier had one shot and took a hooking penalty in the first period. The Crunch defeated the Albany Devils 3-2.

There is some AHL action on Sportsnet One all Sportsnet channels tonight and there should be some Sea Dogs content involved. The Hamilton Bulldogs take on the Toronto Marlies at 8pm and the Chicago Wolves battle the Abbotsford Heat at 11pm.
