Saint John’s lineup just got a lot
bigger.
The team announced today that 6'6",
187 lbs forward Alexander Kealey has rejoined the club. The 16-year old left
Sea Dogs training camp last month in order to maintain NCAA eligibility.
Since departing, the Ottawa native has
had a change of heart.
"After reconsidering and weighing
his options, Alexander has come to the conclusion Saint John and the Quebec
Major Junior Hockey League are best for him to develop as a
student-athlete," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young in a release.
"As a staff, we liked what we saw from him while he was at training camp a
few weeks ago, and we feel that he has a huge upside as a player.
"With the on-ice and off-ice
education he will receive from our coaching staff, we believe he can be an
important part of our team over the next three-to-four years. We are happy to
welcome Alexander back to the Sea Dogs."
In 27 games with the OEMHL’s Ottawa
Senators Midget AAA squad last season, Kealey registered 12 goals and 16
assists. He added three goals and eight assists in 14 playoff games.
The move means there are now 26 players
at Sea Dogs training camp, consisting of three goaltenders, eight defensemen,
and 15 forwards. The addition of Kealey would seem to be why Marcus Cuomo was
reassigned yesterday.
Saint John hosts the Charlottetown
Islanders in pre-season action tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at Harbour Station.
