Recap: Sea Dogs lose 4-1

FINAL: Saint John 1, Quebec 4
QUEBEC CITY, Que. - The Quebec Remparts are enjoying the Maritimes this season.

The Remparts improved to 6-0-0-0 against Maritimes Division clubs on Wednesday night at Videotron Centre, defeating the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-1. It was the second time this season that Quebec bested Saint John.

Much like Tuesday night in Rimouski, play was pretty even through a lot of the game but the Sea Dogs' penalty troubles proved costly. The Remparts scored their first two goals on the man advantage and finished the night 2/6 when up a man.

It's been a frustrating week for the Sea Dogs, who have been playing decent but haven't been able to pick up a win. They have now dropped three straight games and have one of the league's best teams, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, on deck.

Anthony Gagnon, Pierrick Dube, Jacob Melanson and Nathan Gaucher scored for Quebec. Tristan Côté-Cazenave made 29 saves in the win.

Dawson Stairs scored Saint John's only goal. Noah Patenaude made 36 stops in the loss.

LINEUP
SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Julian Vander Voet (healthy) and Alexandre O'Niell (healthy) along with defenseman Kale McCallum (healthy).

BREAK: The Sea Dogs caught a break in the third period when Pierrick Dube's second goal of the game was called back by the officials for an apparent offside. That gave the Sea Dogs a chance - although a slim one being down by three rather than four.

ANOTHER BREAK: It looked like Darien Kielb had pretty much ended the game with roughly three minutes to play in the third, scoring to make it 4-1. But for a second time, the officials reviewed Quebec's fourth goal and it was called back due to an offside.

DROUGHT: Since scoring 10 goals against the Gatineau Olympiques one week ago, Saint John has struggled to score. In the past three games, the Sea Dogs have scored a total of four goals. The good news is that the team has been getting a decent amount of shots - they just haven't been able to convert much.

NOTES: A moment of silence was held before the game to honour Kobe Bryant... Julian Vander Voet provided colour commentary on the Sea Dogs radio broadcast... Jordan Spadafore has assists in back-to-back games... the Sea Dogs fell to 1-5-0-0 against East Division teams... the announced crowd of 6,491 was only the third largest crowd the Sea Dogs have played in front of this season. They've played in front of two larger crowds in Halifax... Saint John has now lost four straight road games... Dawson Stairs has scored six goals this month.
NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs visit the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
