Saint John returned to Harbour Station on Saturday evening to take on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Sebastien Auger surprised fans by starting in net while David Honzik went on guard for Cape Breton.

Jakub Izacky took a hooking call at 10:05. This gave the Eagles the advantage they were waiting for as they went on the power play.

Justin Hache found Auger’s weak spot as he slipped one by the Saint John goaltender at 10:48. That would put the Eagles up on the board 1-0.

Oliver Cooper took a checking from behind penalty at 15:25. Less than a minute later at 16:40, Maxime Villemaire headed off to the box for a roughing penalty. The Dogs pushed forward however and prevented any further scoring by Cape Breton.

Shots on goal for that period were 5-13 in favour of Cape Breton.

A tripping penalty t 3:18 for Cole Murphy sent the Sea Dogs to their first power play of the night. Unfortunately they were unable to tie the game while on the advantage.

Oliver Cooper took his second penalty of the game, this time for tripping at 12:54.

The second period was over without further incident.  This was a much better period for Saint John as they were able to increase their shots on goal for the period to lead in the second 12-7. Total shots on goal after 40 minutes were 17-20 for the Eagles.

The first half of the third period was a constant back and forth. Both teams turned up the heat but the game took a sudden turn as Jakub Izacky scored the first goal for the Sea Dogs at 10:56. Maxime Villemaire snagged the lone assist on that one. Izcaky’s goal tied the game 1-1.

Without another goal for either side, this game headed off to overtime.

Shots in the third were 16-7 in favour of the Dogs.

Try as they might, the Eagles could not shut the Sea Dogs down during overtime. With 6 shots on goal compared to Saint John’s goose egg, Auger held strong and sent the game to a shootout.

In the breakaway contest, Mackenzie Brown and Jakub Izacky broke through Honzik’s guard to land two goals for the Dogs while Michael Clarke scored for the Eagles. That gave Saint John the win and the extra point.
