Brett Gallant Finds Rule Loophole

Former Sea Dog Brett Gallant is involved in the latest NHL rule loophole.

In last night’s pre-season game between  the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils, Gallant and Krys Barch dropped the gloves three times (!). They each received an automatic game misconduct after the third tilt.

It was their second fight of the night that is going viral. According to HockeyFights.com, “starting this season players that remove their own helmet before a fight will receive a minor penalty.” So Gallant and Barch made the ingenious decision to remove the other’s helmet.

Puck Daddy and Deadspin also have details on the fight. The YouTube clip already has over 12,000 views.

Gallant has four fights in pre-season action this year. You can check out all those on HockeyFights.com.

The Summerside native is still one of the most popular Sea Dogs ever. He played in the Alumni Game a few weeks ago at Harbour Station and scored a nice goal.

  1. I know many will disagree with this, but here is my 2 cents' worth.

If I want to watch fighting, I'll go to a boxing match where they do it right. I watch hockey for hockey and the skill it takes to work the puck and score goals. The constant fighting is the reason I stopped attending or watching hockey.

Decide in which sport you wish to participate and stick with it. Fighting in hockey simply means you do two things badly instead of one thing well.

  2. Go watch figure skating then Anne. It's a part of hockey, always will be.
