Sea Dogs sign overage defenceman

The Saint John Sea Dogs got some defensive help on Wednesday.

The team announced the signing of 20-year-old defenceman Brendan O'Reilly earlier in the day. He has been added to the club's roster.

O'Reilly has been playing with the BCHL's Chilliwack Chiefs this season where he has a goal and three assists in 13 games.

A native of Southlake, Texas, O'Reilly spent the previous three seasons with the WHL's Tri-City Americans. In 153 career WHL games, O'Reilly had three goals and 13 assists.

Given his numbers, O'Reilly seems to be more of a defensive defenceman rather than an offensive one. Either way, he adds some much needed experience to Saint John's backend. Other than Bailey Webster, the Sea Dogs' D care is fairly young and inexperienced.

O'Reilly is listed at 6’3″ and 209 lbs as the Sea Dogs continue to add size to their lineup.

The defender joins Webster and Cole Reginato as the team's overage players. Saint John has had just two overage players on its roster most of the season.

Saint John's next game is on Friday night in Halifax against the Mooseheads.
