RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 10-2

FINAL; Saint John 2, Halifax 10
HALIFAX - It was a rough night in Halifax for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs gave up 10 goals 31 shots in a 10-2 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday night at Scotiabank Centre.

Saint John wasn't as heavily outplayed in the contest as the score would indicate - but the Dogs simply couldn't keep the puck out of their own net. The Mooseheads seemed to score on every single quality chance they had - and some of their goals came on some not so great opportunities. Mikhail Denisov was pulled in the second after allowing five goals on just 16 shots. Tommy DaSilva allowed two goals on six shots in rest of the second and five on 15 shots in the third. Saint John was only outshot 31-25 overall.

Samuel Asselin and Patrick Kyte both scored two goals for Halifax while singles came from Jake Ryczek, Arnaud Durandeau, Jordan Maher, Benoit-Olivier Groulx, Antoine Morand and Denis Toner. Alex Gravel made 23 stops in the win.

Nicholas Deakin-Poot and Jeremie Jacob scored for Saint John.

Halifax opened the scoring just 1:18 into the game. Joel Bishop sped into the zone and fed a wide open Asselin who had a yawning net to give the Mooseheads an early advantage.

The Mooseheads took a 2-0 lead at 13:40. A Kyte point shot went through some traffic in front and top corner on Denisov, doubling Halifax's lead.

Halifax made it 3-0 with a power play goal at 15:57. With Robbie Burt in the box, Ryczek wired a wrist shot from the top of the circle that beat an outstretched Denisov.

At 5:09 of the second, a Kyte point shot was redirected off something/someone in front and past the Sea Dogs goaltender, giving Halifax a 4-0 lead.

Denisov's night came to an end at 8:30 when Durandeau picked up a rebound in front and fired a bouncing puck past the Saint John netminder. That made it a 5-0 game and put DaSilva into action.

At 9:56, an Asselin wrist shot in the slot snuck past DaSilva, giving Halifax a 6-0 lead. The goal was just Halifax's 16th shot on net in the game.

Halifax showed they can score in any fashion at 15:06, netting a shorthanded marker. Maher sped past Jeremie Poirier in the Saint John end, cut through the crease and slid a backhand shot past DaSilva to give the Moose a 7-0 lead.

The Dogs finally got on the board at 17:48 when Deakin-Poot beat Gravel, making it 7-1. Then at 3:07 of the third, Jacob picked up the rebound of a blocked shot in front and beat Gravel top corner, making it 7-2.

Not long after Saint John had a strong power play, Ryczek made an ankle breaking move to fool Jacob at the blue line. Ryczek calmly fired a wrist shot on net that was redirected by Groulx past DaSilva, making it 8-2.

With 7:11 remaining, Morand scored to make it 9-2 Mooseheads. Then with 3:39 remaining, Toner scored to put Halifax in double digits.
