FINAL: Quebec 3, Saint John 4 (OT)
SAINT JOHN - Robbie Burt did it again.
For the second time in the past three games, Burt scored the overtime winner to give the Saint John Sea Dogs a win. On Wednesday, the team's leading scorer netted his 11th of the season to give the Sea Dogs an exciting 4-3 victory over the Quebec Remparts.
The Sea Dogs generated very few quality scoring chances throughout the game but made the most of the ones they did generate. Saint John was outshot 47-23 in the contest - including 20-5 in the third period.
Saint John's underage players were in the spotlight on Wednesday. Charlie DesRoches scored for a fourth straight game and added an assist; Jeremie Poirier had a goal and an assist; Josh Lawrence had an assist; and Brady Burns registered two assists.
Maxim Cajkovic also scored. Goaltender Mikhail Denisov was solid, making 44 saves.
Mikael Robidoux, Philipp Kurashev and Matthew Grouchy scored for Quebec. Anthony Morrone made 19 stops in the loss.
Robidoux opened the scoring for the Remparts at 6:01 of the first. The Dogs struggled to get much of anything going in the first half of the period.
Saint John tied the game at 14:46 when DesRoches fired a low shot from the blue line that went through some traffic and in.
Cajkovic gave the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead at 3:08 of the second. The import had a long breakaway and then beat the Remparts goaltender with a low shot glove side.
The Remparts tied the game at 16:23. Brandon Frattarolio had the puck on the goal line and threw it cross ice to a wide open Kurashev. Quebec's leading scorer snapped a one-time shot just past an outstretched Denisov to make it 2-2.
On a power play at 3:14 of the third, Grouchy fired a shot from inside the circle that beat Denisov glove side to put Quebec back in front, 3-2.
With 1:20 remaining in the third and Denisov on the bench, Poirier skated around with the puck and eventually tossed the puck in front. The puck bounced off something/someone in front, beating the Remparts goaltender five-hole to tie the game.
Late in overtime, Burns fed Poirier who nearly ended the game by ripping a shot off the crossbar. Play eventually returned up ice where Burns set up Burt for the game-winner, giving Saint John a 4-3 win.
