SAINT JOHN - Is Shane Bowers finally on his way to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League?

News surfaced Sunday night that the Saint John Sea Dogs will trade Bowers' QMJHL rights to the Drummondville Voltigeurs following the completion of the World Junior Hockey Championship. Bowers is currently playing with Team Canada - which happens to feature two current Voltigeurs forwards in Joe Veleno and Maxime Comtois.

According to Mikael Lalancette of TVA Sports, the deal will, unsurprisingly, involve conditional picks. Lalancette reports that the Sea Dogs will receive a first-round pick if Bowers plays for the Volts.
Reports also indicate that it's not a sure thing that Bowers reports. After years of wondering and speculation, this seems like the most opportune time for the forward to play in the league. Bowers would be leaving Boston University to join one of the CHL's elite teams this season in his 19-year-old year. A Colorado Avalanche prospect, there's a good chance he'll be playing pro next year, which makes leaving college hockey now understandable.

Bowers has five goals and three assists in 15 games with BU this season.

A Halifax native, Bowers was a first round pick of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in 2015 but never reported. The following year, the Sea Dogs drafted him in the second round, but he once again did not report.

Adding Bowers would add even more firepower to a stacked Drummondville team. Earlier on Sunday, reports surfaced that Charlottetown Islanders captain Pierre-Olivier Joseph would be traded to the Volts.

While this is all big news for Drummondville, it's also becoming big news in Halifax. The Memorial Cup hosts have not made any major moves so far other than acquiring Keith Getson - a move that certainly isn't on the same level as Joseph and Bowers. You have to think the Moose are getting a bit nervous - which could create some added fun for league followers over the coming weeks.

The QMJHL's trading period ends on Jan. 6.
