RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 6-2

FINAL: Saint John 2, Moncton 6
MONCTON - The road woes continued for the Saint John Sea Dogs on Sunday.

The Sea Dogs remain winless on the road this season following a 6-2 loss to the Moncton Wildcats at the Avenir Centre. Saint John has not won a road game since Dec. 15, 2017 and, with their next road match not until after the Christmas break, will go an entire calendar year without a win away from home.

Saint John had a decent opening period but still trailed 2-1. Like a lot of games recently, the wheels fell off in the middle frame with the Wildcats scoring four times on 20 shots. That put the game out of reach.

Jeremy McKenna and Mika Cyr both scored twice while singles came from Kyle Foreman and Jakob Pelletier. Francis Leclerc made 27 saves in the victory.

Michael Campoli and Anthony Boucher scored for Saint John. Mikhail Denisov made 29 saves in the loss.

Cyr gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at 5:13 of the first, putting a rebound past an outstretched Denisov. It was Teddy Bear Toss day in Moncton, so there was a delay as the stuffed animals were collected off the ice.

90 seconds after their first goal, the Wildcats made it 2-0. Dylan Seitz carried the puck down the wing and sent a pass to a streaking Foreman in the slot. Foreman had a wide open net to double Moncton's lead. The goal was just the Wildcats' second shot of the game.

Campoli got Saint John on the board at 10:41. A low shot from the circle was redirected off something and snuck past Leclerc, cutting Moncton's lead to 2-1.

McKenna gave the Wildcats a 3-1 lead at 9:23 of the second period. The Wildcats' leading scorer carried the puck in and wired a perfect wrist shot top corner from the circle to restore Moncton's two-goal lead.

Pelletier scored on a wrist shot at 13:12 to give Moncton a commanding 4-1 advantage. Then during some four-on-four play at 15:21, McKenna skated around the Saint John defense and cut in front, sliding the puck under Denisov to give Moncton a 5-1 lead.

Moncton scored yet again at 17:36. Pelletier had the puck behind the net and sent a blind pass to Cyr who was all alone in front. That made it 6-1 Moncton.

Saint John started the third period off with some excellent offensive zone pressure and were rewarded with a goal at 6:28. Nathan Larose carried the puck across the line and fed a streaking Boucher who beat Leclerc upstairs with a wrist shot, making it 6-2.
