On June 18, make your way to Area 1 Uptown (Grannan St, Canterbury St, Prince William St., and Princess St.) between 12 p.m. and 1 a.m. for a day full of fun for all ages!The opening ceremonies will begin at noon to celebrate the beginning of the weeklong festivities. Immediately following the ceremonies, you will be able to choose from a variety of events going on! There will be several street games for you to beat your friends at, including foosball, football toss, ping pong, basketball shoot, jumbo-sized chess, and fun inflatables for the small ones.Maybe you’re more of the creative type? That’s great! Grab some chalk and help the District come to life with a community chalk mosaic! All are welcome to add their own art and learn about the 10 emerging artists that were selected from the community to create a public installation that will be displayed all summer long!Think you have a hard slap shot? Or would you like to learn how a pro does it? Come check out our Hockey Skill Competition area for some street hockey fun!Have you ever wanted to do yoga right in the middle of an intersection? Beginning at 12:30 p.m. and going on at the top of every hour until 3 p.m., get your body moving with street yoga.There will also be music all day, including youth performances hosted by InterAction School of the Performing Arts, and get down with some live music from Mike Biggar at 8 p.m. and What the Funk at 9 p.m.This is a free event for all and we can’t wait to see you all there!
Typically the Memorial Cup is played around Victoria Day. This year it will be played around Father's Day. What better way to celebrate Father’s Day! The Memorial Cup will arrive in dramatic fashion, eventually landing in Saint John Harbour and parading to the gathering site at the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village. Various military personnel, veterans, and military vehicles will take part in the procession to the stage, including a parade route from Long Wharf to Water Street. Following the on-stage welcome and presentation, there will be a formal unveiling of this year’s Military jersey, as well as photo opportunities available to the general public.
