FINAL: Bathurst 4, Saint John 1
James West
FREDERICTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs lost for the first time this pre-season on Tuesday at the Aitken Centre, falling 4-1 to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

Louis Dumais scored Saint John's lone goal, connecting late in the third period when the game was 4-0. Ventsislav Shingarov allowed two goals on 28 shots in nearly 40 minutes of action. Olivier Brideau, who played all of Friday's Sea Dogs game in Dieppe, allowed two goals on 10 shots in just over 23 minutes of play.

Bathurst had goals from Emile Perron, Philippe Collette, Jacob Melanson and Cole Larkin. Joshua Fleming stopped all 13 shots he faced in 40 minutes of play. Jack Howatt allowed a goal on 11 shots in the third period.

New Titan head coach and general manager Gordie Dwyer, who was fired by the Sea Dogs after their first-round playoff loss, faced his former team for the first time in the home of the man who replaced him. Bathurst dressed a much more veteran lineup than Saint John with the likes of Larkin (200 regular season games played), Melanson (111 games), Ben Allison (125 games) and a few others with QMJHL experience suiting up.

No player with any significant amount of QMJHL experience suited up for Saint John. The team will not have veterans in camp until September.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday night at the KC Irving Regional Centre.
