Notebook: New playoff logo unveiled

The President Cup playoffs have a new name and look.

With the QMJHL's championship trophy being renamed in honour of retiring commissioner Gilles Courteau, the league released a new logo for this year's post-season, which will begin just over a month from now.

As sportslogos.net breaks down, the logo is quite similar to last year's.
The QMJHL's regular season ends on Saturday, March 25. The Sea Dogs host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 4 p.m. that day.

NEW POD EPISODE
This week on The Hockey News on the Q podcast, Will MacLaren and I discuss the sale of the Halifax Mooseheads; the race for the final playoff spots; QMJHL players in the Arizona Coyotes system; and much more.
MAESTRO INTRO
Saint John resident Maestro Fresh Wes introduced the Sea Dogs' starting lineup in the team's dressing room last Saturday at TD Station.

VOLTS ARENA UPGRADES
After roughly a decade of talks, it looks like the Marcel Dionne Centre in Drummondville might finally get a major facelift.

Here's renderings of the possible upgrade.

LURETTE GOES PRO
Pierre-Luc Lurette, who played in one game with Saint John during the 2015-16 season, has signed with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Evansville Thunderbolts.

The 24-year-old defenseman, who was a sixth-round pick of Saint John in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft, has spent the past four seasons (including the cancelled season of 2020-21) playing U Sports hockey with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
A few former Sea Dogs have spent time in the SPHL this season, including Cole Reginato, Alexis Girard and Nico Blachman.

OTHER THINGS
  • The Sea Dogs are back in action this weekend when they play the Cape Breton Eagles at Centre 200 on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
  • The Sea Dogs sit 17th overall in the QMJHL standings with 42 points while the Cape Breton Eagles sit 15th with 46 points. These are big games for both teams.
  • All the best to Sea Dogs office and communications manager Gabriel Schofield, who has left the team for a new job.
  • Will Josh Lawrence hit the 100-point mark with the Halifax Mooseheads? As of Friday night, the overager has 86 points with 14 games to play.
  • The Ottawa Sun has a story on Julien Gauthier joining a couple of his former Sea Dogs teammates with the Ottawa Senators.
  • William Dufour scored twice for the Bridgeport Islanders on Thursday, giving the former Sea Dog 18 goals and 34 points in 49 AHL games this season.
  • Boko Imama designed Tucson Roadrunners warmup jerseys that will benefit the new Duclair-Imama Foundation. According to an Arizona Coyotes news release, "Imama and Duclair, both Montreal natives, have struck up a partnership with the goal of mentoring minority children in hockey through introducing and teaching the game, while also providing them the necessary gear to enjoy the sport. The 26-year-old Imama has had a big hand in early fundraising efforts, designing Tucson's warm-up jerseys which were worn during last week's weekend series against the Henderson Silver Knights."
