The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s trading period
begins today and runs through January 7. For some teams, they’ll spend the next
few weeks loading up for a President’s Cup run while others will look to sell
all of their veteran players to start a rebuild. Then there are the few who
will do nothing.
The Saint John Sea Dogs are expected to be buyers but it
isn’t clear how much they’ll buy. In an interview with News 88.9 yesterday, Sea
Dogs associate coach and director of hockey operations Mike Kelly made it clear
that Saint John won’t be selling the farm in order to load up.
On Friday, the Chronicle Herald took a look at who are
the buyers and sellers this year while and the Cape Breton Post
discussed many of the rumours that are going around.
There doesn’t seem to be too many rumours going around
involving the Sea Dogs. In the CB Post article, it mentions that Saint John
could be a destination for defenseman Morgan Ellis. Shawinigan and
Victoriaville are the other rumoured suitors for the Montreal Canadiens
prospect.
With the addition of Charlie Coyle over the weekend,
Saint John’s offense looks solid. It’s the defense and goaltending that the
Dogs may look to upgrade.
It’s going to be an interesting few weeks.
