Three Sea Dogs were invited to attend the camp – forward Zack
Phillips and Jonathan Huberdeau along with defenseman Nathan Beaulieu. Phillips
was among the seven players cut this morning while Huberdeau still has not hit
the ice yet.
Huberdeau’s foot injury has been getting plenty of
attention ever since he showed up in Calgary with a walking boot still on. By
the sounds of it, Huberdeau is getting close to returning to the ice.
“We had planned to skate Huberdeau but he went off-site,”
Team Canada head coach Don Hay told Future Considerations. “He’s doing a little
swimming, some water recovery work for the foot. He’s progressing really well.
We’re happy with his progress.”
As for Beaulieu, he recorded an assist on Sunday night in
Team Red’s 3-2 loss to Team White. He shifted to Team White for last night’s game
and had a solid first period.
“Nathan Beaulieu is looking more and more like a power
play specialist,” wrote Aaron Vickers of Future Considerations. "Shown some good
things with the man-advantage. Hasn’t shown much else other than that.”
Team Red won Monday’s game 2-0.
PHILLIPS
Zack Phillips spoke to the media after getting word that
he had been released this morning.
"It's tough just to make the camp, so it kind of
sucks getting cut, but I wish the rest of the guys luck and hopefully I do
well," said Phillips.
