SAINT JOHN – The Canadian Press has named the Grey Cup
champion BC Lions their ‘Team of the Year’ for 2011. According to the CP, “the
Lions finished with 116 points in the poll, including a majority of the
first-place votes (22).”
The Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks
finished second with 82 points while the Memorial Cup champion Saint John Sea
Dogs finished third with 69 points. Third place ain’t too bad at all.
Looking back, how fun was it to be a Sea Dogs fan in
2011? Some of the highlights include:
- Finishing off one of the greatest regular seasons in league history.
- Winning the President’s Cup in double-overtime.
- Becoming the first Maritime team to win the Memorial Cup.
- The parade down King St.
- Having three players taken in the first round of the NHL draft and five overall..
What a year. 2012 is going to have to be pretty incredible to beat this
