As expected, the Saint John Sea Dogs were quite active
during the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s trading period.
General Manager Mike Kelly did what rebuilding teams are supposed
to do – trade away older players in exchange for assets that will help the team
in the seasons to come.
Saint John's biggest deals saw them trade away long-time players Kevin Gagne, Ryan Tesink, and Stephen MacAulay. Their biggest acquisition
was probably getting their first-round pick back for this year’s draft, a pick
that could possibly be in the top five.
Here’s a recap of what the Sea Dogs did (not including the
players who were released or the players who rejoined the club):
IN

2013 1st rounder (RIM)
2013 1st rounder (SNB)
2013 4th rounder (HAL)
2013 6th rounder (RIM)
2014 2nd rounder (HAL)

So that’s what went down.
The team also brought back 20-year old players Ian Saab
and Maxime Villemaire which should make for an interesting second half.
